Bear traps have played a huge role in North America since the 1800's. Bears were trapped in North America for food, hides, and to protect homesteads, livestock, etc. While these traps are no longer used to trap bears, they are highly collectable today. The largest functional bear trap produced was the Sawtooth #9 bear trap. It weighs in excess of 800 pounds and has an overall dimension of over nine feet. For a long time the largest commercially produced bear trap was the #6 grizzly bear trap, (S. Newhouse # 6) approximately 44" long and 45 pounds. Today you might see a bear trap on display in a lodge, fine restaurant or bar, a sporting goods store, or in a museum. These traps are not common in displays, and tend to attract quite a bit of attention. Sawtooth Trap Company was formed in 2010 and makes quality limited edition bear traps for display in that unique special setting.
Sawtooth Trap Company makes the largest and strongest bear traps in the world.
The Sawtooth #7 is a smaller version of the Sawtooth #8. A very limited run of Sawtooth #8 bear traps sold out in 2016; and are no longer produced. Sawtooth #7 bear traps are 53" long and weigh 70 pounds with the standard chain and ring. If ordered with the optional long chain and drag they weigh 80 pounds. Each trap has exceptional strength in the springs, chain, and jaws. The three prong drag and cold shut are options that add to the asthetic appeal of the trap.
Only 50 steel models will be made, a total of 5 made with bronze pans, jaws, swivel, and ring, and 15 made with brass jaws, pan, swivel and ring. Currently we have sold over 80 percent of this limited edition production run. Order yours today while they are still available.
